What it does

Fine-point scissors trim thread and delicate materials neatly without disturbing the fly.

How to use it

  1. 1

Rest the finger rings lightly on your tying hand so the scissors are always within reach.

  2. 2

Brace a finger or thumb near the vice when you need a very close, steady cut.

  3. 3

Use the fine tips for thread and small feathers, and the stronger part of the blades for tougher fibres.

  4. 4

Close the blades deliberately and move the cut-off material away before continuing.

Beginner tip

Keep one good pair only for thread, feathers and fur. Use old scissors for wire and anything abrasive.

Common mistake

Never cut wire with your best tying scissors — one snip can blunt or notch the fine blades.
