What it does
The vice is your third hand. It holds the hook still while you add thread and materials.
How to use it
- 1
Clamp the vice securely to the table, or place its pedestal base on a flat surface.
- 2
Set the jaws around the lower part of the hook bend, leaving the shank, point and eye clear.
- 3
Adjust the jaws for the hook size, then close the lever until the hook cannot twist.
- 4
Set the height so the hook is near the middle of your chest and both hands can rest comfortably.
Beginner tip
Give the hook shank a gentle tap. A clear little ping, with no movement, means it is held well.
Common mistake
Do not bury the hook deep in the jaws or squeeze it with excessive force — both can damage the hook or vice.
