What it imitates
A fly stuck half out of its shuck in the surface film.
When to fish it
During a hatch when fish ignore your dry fly — they're taking emergers.
Materials
- CDC feathers
- Fine olive dubbing
- Brown 12/0 thread
- Antron or Z-lon for the shuck
Steps
- 1
Tie in a sparse Antron shuck at the bend, about half a shank long.
- 2
Dub the slimmest tapered body you can manage up to the thorax.
- 3
Set two CDC tips flat over the back as a low wing — sparse is the whole point.
- 4
Add a touch of dubbing at the head, whip finish with two or three wraps only.
