What it imitates

A general scruffy nymph or emerging sedge — a bit of everything.

When to fish it

Rivers and lakes all season, especially when you're not sure what's hatching.

Materials

  • Hare's mask dubbing
  • Gold oval tinsel
  • Pheasant tail fibres
  • Brown thread

Steps

  1. 1

    Tie in a short tail of hare guard hairs or pheasant tail fibres and the gold rib.

  2. 2

    Dub a tapered body, slim at the back and thicker at the front.

  3. 3

    Wind the rib forward in even turns and tie it off.

  4. 4

    Dub a scruffy thorax, pick out the guard hairs with a needle and whip finish.
