Anything alive and swimming — leech, small fish, big nymph.
When to fish it
When the water is coloured or cold, or nothing is rising. Strip it back in short pulls.
Materials
- Black marabou plume
- Black chenille
- Black or grizzly hackle
- Gold wire
- Black 6/0 thread
- Optional 3.5mm bead
Steps
- 1
Lay a thread base along the shank and tie in a marabou tail about a shank long.

Tie in the gold wire, then the chenille and a hackle by the tip at the back.

Wind the chenille forward in touching turns and tie it off behind the eye.
- 4
Palmer the hackle forward over the chenille and secure it.
- 5
Rib the wire forward the other way through the hackle, whip finish and varnish.
