Three steps

Cast slightly upstream of the fish or the likely lie.

As soon as the line lands, lift the rod tip and flip the belly of the line upstream.

Follow the fly downstream with the rod tip, mending again whenever a bow forms.
Common mistake
Mending so hard that you drag the fly off its line.

Small, early mends beat one big desperate one.
